Laurent Bossard

Laurent Bossard is a geographer who has devoted his professional career to development issues in West Africa. He joined the European Commission’s Directorate General for Development in 1982, where he was posted to Burkina Faso as Technical Adviser for regional co-operation in Sahel countries - a post he held until 1988. From 1989 to 1994 he worked for the FAO Investment Centre on World Bank programmes mainly in Benin and Niger. He collaborated with a non-governmental organisation for international solidarity and with research centres working on livestock, West African grain markets and international trade. He also facilitated a series of reflections for the OECD on food security in the Sahel. Mr. Bossard joined the OECD in 1995 and was appointed Director of the Sahel and West Africa Club Secretariat in March 2011.

Mr Gnacadja has over 20 years of experience in environmental and urban development. During his rich and diversed career path he has performed as Minister of Environment, Habitat, Urban and Regional Development, Special Representative of the LoCAL Programme Board, Chairperson of the Strategic Council of the Sahara and Sahel Observatory. He is also Founder and President of GPS-DEV, a think tank involved in transforming governance for sustainability in developing countries. Since becoming UN Assistant-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the UNCCD in October 2007, Mr. Gnacadja has dedicated himself to mobilizing political will for the fight against desertification, land degradation and to mitigate the effects of drought.
