As part of the process of accelerated urbanization and urban transition in all African countries, most new urban dwellers are moving to intermediary cities.
In that context, the session on "Financing affordable housing in intermediary cities" is being held at the Africités Summit in Kisumu, Kenya's middle-tier city.
The purpose of this session is to reflect and exchange on an appropriate strategy to support an affordable housing policy and its implementation within the framework of a summit bringing together many African mayors.
How to finance in quantity in quality and at an affordable cost housing for the greatest number, that is the subject of this session which brings together the primary actors that are the inhabitants themselves with several Mayors who sometimes have the responsibility of this subject at the national level, the financiers of the continent and in some pilot countries.
This pioneering topic requires hearing from experts who, with the support of their development partners, work tirelessly to promote knowledge and good practices in this field.
Supported by a 2021 report on the pre-feasibility of building an affordable housing coalition in Africa, and the many publications of the organizers of this session, its findings and recommendations will form part of the Kisumu Declaration.
They will be brought to the credit in various international forums including the next World Urban Forum in Katowice in June 2022.
